Road Trip

We took advantage of the fall-ish (for LA) weather this weekend and ventured up to the Oak Glen area near Yucaipa, CA to go apple picking. I'd been wanting to make this trip for a few years now, but since it doesn't start feeling like autumn here until the apple picking season ends we had missed it two years running. We packed a bag with hats and activities for the kids and hit the road for the 90 mile drive.

We arrived at Riley's Apple Farm around 11, and the kids were off and running. There was so much to do and see beyond just picking apples - hay rides, archery, pressing cider, tomahawk throws, corn husk doll making...

...as well as a pumpkin patch, corn field and even beautiful wood planks for sale.

On our way home we stopped for lunch and - of course - apple pie and crisp for dessert.

And when we got home I washed our bounty - a mix of Spartan, Braeburn, Mcintosh and Red Jonathan apples.

The girls each picked one to bring to their teachers today and the rest are reserved for an apple pie I'm going to attempt later this week. Wish me luck!
